Receive and sign your deed poll
When you receive your deed poll, you’ll need to complete it properly for it to be effective.
You will:
- Check the details are correct
- Sign the document using your current (old) name in your usual signature
- Date it on the day you sign
After you submit, you’ll be able to review your details to make sure everything is accurate.

Start using your new name
Once your deed poll is signed and witnessed, you can begin using your new name.
You can use it to update your details with organisations such as:
- Banks and building societies
- Employers
- DVLA
- HM Passport Office
- HMRC
- Schools, universities, insurers, and utility providers
